Baltimore Mobbies Diamondback Brewery Our Endless Adventure

THANK YOU for Voting for the 2016 Baltimore Sun Mobbies

Baltimore, Photography By December 2, 2016 Tags: , , No Comments

Last night I had the pleasure of mingling with some of Baltimore’s most creative folks at the new Diamondback Brewery in Locust Point, Baltimore. It was a celebration of Baltimore’s online community, originally named “Maryland’s Outstanding Blogs,” but more widely known as “The Mobbies.” I was super excited to have won “Best Use of Photo.” A huge THANK YOU to those who nominated and voted for me!

Baltimore Sun Mobbies Our Endless Adventure 2016

My Emoji Award and Me

I will be the first to admit that while I am not the best photographer on that list, that is the beauty of photography, there is so much room to learn and lots of space to find your own style. Also, as the name of the category hints to, there are so many ways you can use photography. For me, it has always been a goal to use my photography and blog as a way to share new places, awesome local businesses, and the beautiful little details in life. All in hopes that I can inspire others to get out there and create their own adventures.

Also, it has been awesome to watch the creative community grow over the past few years. This is due to many things, but I personally want to shout out to @TheBmoreCreatives, Rising Tide Society, and Creative Mornings. While at times peaceful and empowering, it can be also be lonely and disheartening to be working alone and these groups have truly brought together communities online and IRL.

In the spirit of community over competition, here are some of my favorites that you should be keeping an eye on, in no particular order (and not even scraping the surface of awesomeness that Baltimore has to offer):

Considering I took a leap of faith a couple months ago and charted a new path for my career, it truly means the world to have the support of my friends, family, and all the creative people I continue to have the pleasure of meeting around Baltimore and on my travels. Thanks again!

Much Love,

Top Events To Do This November Around Baltimore

Baltimore, City Adventures, Destinations By November 4, 2016 Tags: , , 1 Comment

Happy November, y’all! I feel like I say this every month, but when on earth did it become November?! Life has been pretty hectic recently (a good hectic) and the weather has been a bit warm for this time of year, so I suppose that has thrown me off. Nonetheless, here we are, in the month that yours truly was born, the month that I turn the big 3-0. It should be a good one. I have never been one to want time to stop or to live in the past, I am always excited for what is to come, including my thirties. Plus, I love any excuse to get together and celebrate with friends and family, so celebrate we will. All. Month. Long. Yep, one of those girls.

Since I don’t want to leave you out of the celebrations, I wanted to share a few fun things to do around my hometown, this glorious city of Baltimore. Yes, the weather is cooling, but you don’t have to hibernate quite yet. There is a lot going on around Baltimore in November, from fishies to tapas to plants and bikes. Read on.

It’s Pay What You Want Day at the Aquarium. Yes, you heard me, guests may choose their admission price to access nearly 20,000 animals at the National Aquarium. That’s a lot of animals. Grab the amount of dollars you want to spend and make time to reconnect with all of the world’s aquatic treasures.

Carolyn & Adam’s Adventure | Loch Raven & Fells Point Engagement

Baltimore, Engagements, Outdoor Adventures, Photography By October 17, 2016 Tags: , , , , , , No Comments

I recently had the pleasure of capturing engagement photos of two of my good friends, Carolyn and Adam, who are getting married next June. When chatting about spots for photos, they were hoping for a balance of some outdoors and some in the city. I was super excited when they completely trusted me to go wander in the woods to find a reservoir that none of us had ever been to. Loch Raven Reservoir was very gorgeous in early October and we already want to go back for more adventures. We then wrapped up the session with a gorgeous autumn evening in Fells Point, one of my favorite neighborhoods in Baltimore.

I first met Carolyn in middle school, as she was good friends with my sister. In college, I was lucky enough to live with Carolyn, along with a few other amazing ladies, and we have been pretty inseparable ever since. Carolyn is one of the most loyal and incredibly caring friends I have, always willing to put everyone before herself. She is upbeat, friendly, and ridiculous, needless to say time with her is never boring.

Adam and Carolyn met through some mutual friends. After months of Carolyn talking about how rugged and handsome our friend’s friend was, all they needed was a not so coincidental table assignment at a wedding for their romance to truly start. From there, there were many weekend trips back and forth between Maryland and Connecticut, with Adam eventually making Baltimore his new home with Carolyn.

While I did not know Adam previous to their relationship, I can say I’ve never seen Carolyn so happy and in love. I believe they truly complement and balance each other. You can tell they care deeply for each other by all that they do for each other and with each other, all with a great sense of humor about life. Also, I love that they are just as happy to curl up on their couch on a Saturday night with their dog, Winston, as they are up for sailing around the Caribbean (where they also got engaged, not romantic at all, right?). I have so many other details I would love to share about them here, but I need to save some details for my maid-of-honor speech!

Without further ado, enjoy some moments with Carolyn and Adam below. Happy Engagement!

Much Love,

15 Reasons Why Maryland is Amazing

Baltimore, Lifestyle By March 25, 2014 Tags: , , No Comments

I may not have chosen to grow up in Maryland, but I did decide to continue to live here (and trust me, I have thought about moving away, California always sounds nice). There is just something about Maryland that keeps me here and keeps me happy. On this day, 380 years ago, the first European settlers landed on what is now known as the great state of Maryland. In honor of Maryland day, I bring you 15 reasons why Maryland is amazing (in no particular order and by no means, an all-encompassing list):

seasons

1. Who Loves Seasons?

We have all 4 seasons. Yes, while snow at the end of March is never ideal, it can quickly jump to the 70’s in no time. Maryland, you’re crazy. I like you, but you’re crazy.

2. Don’t Worry, Be Crabby

Getting crabs in Maryland is not a bad thing. Blue crabs that is.

3. We Have It All

Beaches, mountains, cities, farmland. You can hike, bike, swim, or boat. Whatever your little heart desires.

national-aquarium-baltimore-maryland

4. Fish Fun

The National Aquarium is in Maryland. No, not the Baltimore Aquarium, not the Maryland Aquarium, it is the National Aquarium. We don’t mess around when it comes to our fishies.

5. Two Words: Old Bay

I grew up putting this on everything… popcorn, pizza, crabs, french fries, chicken, macaroni and cheese, corn on the cob, potato chips… heck, I’ve even tried Old Bay ice cream. I used to work at McCormick & Company where I got to talk about Old Bay everyday AND it was encouraged. Can you say dream job?

6. Maryland is Really Funny Shape

Which obviously makes for great jewelry.

7. The Flag

We have this crazy, yet beautiful flag. It’s yellow. It’s red. It’s in your face. Who came up with this pattern? I like it. Plus it makes for some great clothing and accessories. Thank you Route One Apparel.

historictowns

8. All The Historic Towns

Annapolis, Baltimore, Frederick, Old Ellicott City, and so much more. Some of my favorite times are spent wandering historic main streets exploring the shops and restaurants (and apparently I like to take photos of couples holding hands in these places too).

9. Not North, Not South

We’re not quite “Northern,” we’re not quite “Southern,” which means when we head north or south, we don’t quite fit in, but the silver lining is that no one strongly dislikes us for that reason.

philly-dc-nyc

10. That Being Said… Location, Location, Location

While Maryland is great, variety is the spice of life. We are within close proximity to many other top US cities. Wherever you might be in Maryland, you could wake up one morning and take a day trip to DC, Philadelphia, NYC, and more. No big deal.

flyingdogbeer

11. Maryland Beer

Flying Dog, Heavy Seas, Union Brewery, DuClaw, Brewer’s Alley, and so many other craft brewers. It’s easier to “buy local” when your local beer is top notch.

bergers-cookies-maryland-baltimore

12. Berger Cookies

You can only find them here in Maryland. They are rich and decadent and so worth it.

13. Weird County Pride

I have not met many other people in the US that have quite as much county pride as Maryland residents. I’ve actually met people from other states that have no idea what county they are in. Nonetheless, we rep the counties we grew up or live in like no other (hailing from hocofoshoyo, now with bmore cred).

14. My Wallet is Apathetic

It might not be cheap to reside here, but it sure is cheaper than DC.

bridland

15. This is Birdland

Through thick and through thin, we support our Baltimore Orioles and Ravens.
